An 85-year-old Moreno Valley dog bite victim recently underwent surgery for injuries from an attack by a neighbor’s pit bull. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has not released a lot of details about the attack on the victim, Barbara Plunk, and there don’t appear to be any witnesses.
What we do know is that Plunk’s daughter called for help when her mother was unintelligible on the telephone. The daughter feared that her mother had suffered a stroke. Medics arrived at Plunk’s home to find that she had been attacked by a dog. She was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center where she had surgery for injuries to her torso and arms.

DogsBite.org, a national dog bite victims’ group, released a report covers a 3-year period (January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2008) that found of the 88 fatal dog attacks recorded, pit bull type dogs were responsible for 59% (52). This is equivalent to a pit bull killing a U.S. citizen every 21 days during this 3-year period.
Mrs. Plunk is very fortunate that none of the dog bites from this pit bull were fatal. However, she had to endure psychological trauma, physical pain and surgery for her wounds. Hopefully, she or her daughter, contacted a qualified dog bite attorney to represent her.
