A recent Sacramento car accident took the life of Becky Miller, 53, on February 17, 2011. Miller was driving her white 2001 Isuzu Trooper Rodeo northbound on Rio Linda Boulevard when she was hit head-on by Shara Cote, 34, who was driving a white 1999 Ford F-150 pickup southbound Rio Linda Boulevard.
Cote allowed her vehicle to travel into the northbound lanes where the Isuzu was approaching, striking it head-on. The crash caused Miller’s car to spin onto the east side of the roadway and into a ditch full of water. Cote’s Ford also spun before stopping on the west side of the roadway.
Cote was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital with a head injury and lacerations. She was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Miller was trapped in her vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Cote’s teenage son, a passenger in the back seat, was ejected after the crash and landed on the road. He was taken to the hospital with major internal injuries. His teenage girlfriend was also sitting in the back of the Isuzu and suffered minor injuries. Investigators say that the two teenagers were not wearing their seatbelts in this fatal car accident.
Sacramento Car Accident Caused By DUI?
Cote, the driver who swerved into oncoming traffic and caused the collision, is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Due to her injuries she has not been released from the hospital. This collision is still under investigation. This is an unfortunate tragedy which claimed the life of one person and sent three to the hospital.
If Shara Cote was indeed driving under the influence she may face criminal charges for driving under the influence. California Vehicle Law Section 23152 states: (a) It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.
