Two women died in a truck accident on the eastbound 60 Freeway in the City of Industry, near Los Angeles, on March 3, 2011. The victims, who haven’t been identified, were in a silver Nissan Altima that was struck by a semi-truck that jackknifed through the center divider on the wet road at about 1:40 a.m.
The truck was turning from the southbound 605 Freeway to the 60 Freeway when it landed on the opposite side of the freeway and collided with the Nissan. “The driver was coherent, indicated that he entered the transition road somewhere between 45 and 55 mph and at some point he lost control of his vehicle, ” said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Preciado. “The trailer is empty, which can also be a factor.”
Truck Accident Cause?
The two women in the Nissan, ages 42 and 45, died at the scene of the truck accident. Their names have not been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the semi truck was taken to a hospital. The big rig also hit Laurie Hi’s minivan. “The car just hit it and flew over. All the rock and mirror and everything hit my car. It’s so bad,” she said.
During the clean-up and investigation, officers closed the entire eastbound 60 Freeway, directing drivers off the highway at Peck Road. Traffic on the 60 Freeway was backed up for miles. It’s not entirely clear what caused this tragedy, the weather and/or driver negligence, but let’s hope the victims’ families contacted a California truck accident attorney.
