A couple of bystanders, Amy and Andreas Magdeburg, saved Samuel Lewis’ life after he was critically injured in a motorcycle accident.
Lewis’ accident happened on May 3 while he was leaving his job at an automotive shop. A driver at an intersection failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn.
With no time to brake, Lewis’ body took the full impact of the wreck.
When Andreas and Amy Magdeburg found him lying on the side of the road, Lewis’ bones in his arm, hands, fingers and hip were shattered and his foot had been turned backwards. A laceration from his neck to his shoulder was less than an inch from his jugular. Despite his injuries, Lewis, who was in shock, was trying to get up.
The couple, who were both in the medical field, went to work trying to slow his bleeding. Lewis had already lost more than three pints of blood. The husband took his shirt off to hold Lewis’ face in place and laid on the right side of his body to keep Lewis from moving his leg.
The wife tried to keep him conscious while she applied pressure to the laceration on his neck. She also held his hand and kept his pinky from falling off.
Lewis’ sister Kelley said: “I arrived at the scene as the ambulance was leaving with my brother. I remember when I arrived the whole intersection was filled with blood as the firefighters where spraying it down.”
Since that day, Lewis stayed in the hospital two weeks, where he received stitches from head to toe and underwent several surgeries to repair his broken body. He can’t walk yet, but his family is hopeful.
His family is focusing on making ends meet while Samuel is still recovery. After the motorcycle accident, Lewis lost his job and is having difficulty paying his medical bills and covering living expenses.
Lewis would be well-served to contact a motorcycle accident law firm, which could get compensation for his medical bills, loss of wages. rehab and any other additional costs.
