Singer and actress Hilary Duff has reportedly been sued by a woman named Rachel Owens who claims that Duff was involved in a car incident with her in 2010 and caused significant injuries.
According to a lawsuit that was filed in Los Angeles today by Owens, Duff smashed her Range Rover into the vehicle that Owens was driving on Dec.12, 2010.
The car incidentresulted in Owens getting “hurt and injured in her health, strength and activity, sustaining injury to her nervous system.”
TMZ.com reports that Owens, who is suing for unspecified damages, also claims the auto incident “prevented [her] from attending her usual occupation for a period of time in the future.”
This is the firstcar accident lawsuit for Duff, who for much of her earlier career carefully cultivated a wholesome image.
We don’t know the details of this car accident, but if Owens was injured because Duff was at fault, then she is certainly entitled to a car accident settlement for her physical injuries, loss of wages and other associated costs from the car accident.
A person who negligently operates a vehicle is required by law to pay for any and all damages caused. All operators of vehicles must drive with “reasonable care under the circumstances.” If such care is not used, and a car accident happens, then they are responsible for all damages.
