Celebrity TV chef Cat Cora was arrested for a DUI on June 17, 2012 after she rear-ended another vehicle in a car accident in Santa Barbara, California.
The car accident happened at 6:15 p.m., according to the Santa Barbara Independent. Cora hit a BMW stopped at a crosswalk line with her Chevy Tahoe at a low speed.
When police arrived at the scene of thecar crash, they reportedly found Cora showing signs of intoxication. She admitted to having three beers earlier in the night and reportedly told police officers that she was on her way home.
The officers gave Cora two breathalyzer tests as reported by MSN. One registered a 0.19 and the other a 0.20. The legal limit in California is 0.08. Police then took her to a hospital to have a blood test which registered a 0.19.
Cora is a well-known TV personality from ‘Iron Chef’ and ‘Around the World in 80 Plates’ so it’s possible that police recognized her and gave her multiple chances with the breathalyzer test.
Cora’s mugshot (above) was released online today and quickly made headlines because of how good she looked, appearing fresh-faced and with perfectly-styled hair.
TMZ.com notes that although the celebrity chef was arrested on June 17, she left the police station hours later and did not take a mugshot at the time. She returned on June 28 to take her “make up” photo, which explains why she looks far better in her mugshot than some other celebrities.
But Cora is not taking the situation lightly. She said in a statement: “I deeply regret my decision to drive that evening after my designated driver became unavailable. I learned a very important lesson from this experience and take full accountability for my actions. This will never happen again.”
While it is good that Cora has taken responsibility for the car accident, hopefully the owner, of the car that she hit, has contacted a California car accident attorney. The owner is entitled to compensation for damage to his or her car, as well as any physical damages, missed wages, medical bills and more.
