About one million Maclaren strollers were recalled by Maclaren USA and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for injury hazards in November 2009.
On May 12. 2011, the CPSC reissued a recall notice for certain Maclaren strollers, saying there have been 37 reported injuries since the defective product was originally recalled.
The defective product recall was re-issued after it was discovered that the stroller’s hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the stroller is unfolding or being opened.
Product Liability Issues
Maclaren has received a total of 149 reported incidents involving the recalled strollers, which included 37 reported injuries. During the original recall, there were a reported 15 incidents, including 12 reports of fingertip amputations in the United States.
This re-announcement involves all Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers sold prior to November 2009. The word ‘Maclaren’ is printed on the stroller. Maclaren strollers sold after May 2010 have a different hinge design and are not affected by this announcement.

What is Product Liability?
Defective products fall under an area of law called “product liability.” This can cover the manufacturing of a product, the design of a product and the failure to warn about a defective product. Clearly, this stroller poses some serious injury risks as it could even cause amputation of the finger.
